Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)

This is a local version of the International Programme where we sponsor up to two places for local young people aged between 16 and 18 who want to develop themselves and improve their leadership skills.

RYLA is a fully paid fully catered six day residential course held in late July/early August in the Royal Forest of Dean.

The programme includes:

Fundamentals of leadership;

Ethics of leadership;

Communication skills;

Public speaking;

Problem solving and conflict management;

Building self confidence and self esteem;

Self evaluation.

The course provides a chance for participants to set their own goals and test them against a series of challenging, practical and theoretical tasks.

It is not an outdoor adventure programme but activities include a ropes course, canoeing, climbing and orienteering.  These challenges, backed by theory, are used to give participants’ opportunities to put their learning into practice in a safe and supportive environment.

Open to young men and women aged between 16 and 18.  They must have a reasonable level of physical fitness and be prepared to push boundaries and challenge themselves.

If you would like to be considered for a place on the next programme July 2019 or you know someone who would benefit please request an application form  from Eddie Simms at Swindon Old Town Rotary club
